SEIU Urges Action Against Countrywide Deal

Bank of America’s deal to acquire Countrywide Financial has garnered both praise and brickbats from the financial community and the press. But it is also drawing fire from an unusual quarter: a major labor union.

Hours after the two firms announced their transaction, the Service Employees International Union released a statement decrying the deal — and urged Congress to close a loophole that would allow the merger to happen.
